Sunday Street Photo Treat

Martin Parr Guardian Article

Martin Parr Article and upcoming Talk

I was busy reading one of the Sunday Newspapers this morning. When I found an article on Martin Parr, that I thought I would share with you all.

Martin Parr’s Guardian Article “‘There’s something very interesting about boring’: Martin Parr on his life in pictures”

Reading the above article, I discovered that there is a new book.

Utterly Lazy and Inattentive published by Penguin.

Written by Wendy Jones and Martin Parr, as a semi Autobiography, using Martin Parr’s images as a way of talking though his life. The book looks like it will be a worthwhile addition to anyone’s Martin Parr book collection.

“I had a funny one in Morecambe last summer. I was taking photos and this couple came up and said, “That’s a nice camera. What are you doing around here?” I replied, “I’m documenting Morecambe.” They said, “You mean like Martin Parr?” I said, “I am Martin Parr.” They were rather surprised.” Martin Parr.

There is also a book launch for the book at Foyle’s in London on the 8th of September.

About Martin Parr

What can I say about Martin Parr, he has been a huge influence whether we like it or not. Particularly on social documentary photography and also street photography. In essence Martin Parr is a street photographer, who got lucky though hard work and good timing. He joined Magnum and his work was and still is a good look at the times that we live in.

He is one of the early British colour documentary photographers, who made a lot of street photography. His blending street photography approaches, into social documentary photography, is one of the reasons why British photographers, often merge the two areas of photography together. Martin Parr is one photographer, that street photographers should be aware of. He was originally famous for using medium format cameras with colour film and flash. He would also use colour films that accentuated the vivid colours of the world. His work has change a little over time and he now works with Digital cameras. Still aiming for his signature style of vibrant colours within his images.

I also wrote an article on Martin Parr for my Photographic influences series on my website which you can see here:
