  • Can you make images everyday for 30 days?

Can you make images everyday for 30 days?

    Artquest and 30/30

Have you ever considered making 30 images in 30 Days?

Artquest runs an event every year and it is fun to participate and have other artists also seeing your work. This year, I am suggesting that, Street Photographers might find this an interesting thing to do. Starting on the 1st of February, you will need to make and post one image a day, to stay in the running. Can you make it to the end, and post 30 images over 30 days.

I signed up for this last year and found it really good for exploring work, that I would not normally make.

30/30 is a free challenge designed to encourage daily making, risk taking and experimentation for artists, working in any medium, anywhere in the world.

The 30/30 challenge will begin on 1 February 2026 and registration is open until 31 January 2026.

I personally, would love to see a lot of street photographers doing this. And get out there, to see what we can do, every day in the month of Feb. To make images and get them posted, before the day is out.

It is a challenge. I did it last year and I have already signed up, for this years 30/30, will you join me?

    Q&A and wrap-up

Some images form the Ricoh GRIV

I have had a Ricoh GRIV now for about a week and so far I have had limited time to make images however I have found that it is the perfect pocket everyday carry camera. It complements my Leica M series cameras perfectly as I can use it whenever I want to and it is far more discreet than using a Leica camera. I also find that using it at arms length I am far more casual in my compositions and think differently as I am making snapshots of time not in my head real images. This thought process is freeing as I am not taking myself seriously I am able to make images with a freedom that I do not normally give myself when using my Leica or Nikon cameras. So for me a camera like the Ricoh GRIV, if you have the money to buy one is worth considering.

I am also picking up the GRIIIx with a 40mm equivalent lens to use in the week before the GR Space event. I will be updating this article with new images when I have made some with that camera.

  • Brief Website Update

    Brief Website Update

We have been a bit buys behind the scenes and not getting to publish quite so much for the past month.

I unfortunately had to rush to Australia from London as my Father is in hospital and now I am arranging to get him into a care home which is a real undertaking in Australia.

David has been looking for a new apartment in New York. So we have both been super preoccupied with life things, outside of the Street Photography community.

I did have the pleasure of attending the opening of the new and only GR Space outside of Japan a week ago, much to my surprise did I find myself getting to meet the team from PetaPixel in Brisbane, Australia.

I also got loaned a Ricoh GRIV to try out. And I am busy trying to organise a talk/training session at the new Brisbane GR space to happen on the 1st of November all going well.

So while sorting my Father out with a new care home, then clearing his house I also now need time to take the little and it is little Ricoh GRIV out to use it. To see what I think of it and get my head around the snap focus setting as that looks like it could be really cool.

Be on the look out for an announcement

I will be doing an event on the 1st November at the GR Space in Brisbane, Australia for anyone who wants to know more please email the editor@street-photography.net for more info.

    Sunday Street Photo Treat

Martin Parr Article and upcoming Talk

I was busy reading one of the Sunday Newspapers this morning. When I found an article on Martin Parr, that I thought I would share with you all.

Martin Parr’s Guardian Article “‘There’s something very interesting about boring’: Martin Parr on his life in pictures”

Reading the above article, I discovered that there is a new book.

Utterly Lazy and Inattentive published by Penguin.

Written by Wendy Jones and Martin Parr, as a semi Autobiography, using Martin Parr’s images as a way of talking though his life. The book looks like it will be a worthwhile addition to anyone’s Martin Parr book collection.

“I had a funny one in Morecambe last summer. I was taking photos and this couple came up and said, “That’s a nice camera. What are you doing around here?” I replied, “I’m documenting Morecambe.” They said, “You mean like Martin Parr?” I said, “I am Martin Parr.” They were rather surprised.” Martin Parr.

    Artist Talk

There is also a book launch for the book at Foyle’s in London on the 8th of September.

Martin Parr in Conversation with Wendy Jones is available to book tickets on Eventbrite. Details here

    About Martin Parr

What can I say about Martin Parr, he has been a huge influence whether we like it or not. Particularly on social documentary photography and also street photography. In essence Martin Parr is a street photographer, who got lucky though hard work and good timing. He joined Magnum and his work was and still is a good look at the times that we live in.

He is one of the early British colour documentary photographers, who made a lot of street photography. His blending street photography approaches, into social documentary photography, is one of the reasons why British photographers, often merge the two areas of photography together. Martin Parr is one photographer, that street photographers should be aware of. He was originally famous for using medium format cameras with colour film and flash. He would also use colour films that accentuated the vivid colours of the world. His work has change a little over time and he now works with Digital cameras. Still aiming for his signature style of vibrant colours within his images.

I also wrote an article on Martin Parr for my Photographic influences series on my website which you can see here:
